Inspired by the Indivisible Guide
Indivisible Kansas City: Founded December 18, 2016
Back on December 18, when feelers went out to see if anyone wanted to join together around this google doc known as the Indivisible Guide, the hope was that perhaps a handful of people would make calls, maybe do some office visits together, write letters.
In the past seven months, that hoped-for-handful of people has proven to be a force for change. Thousands of calls have been made. Dozens of office visits, rallies, town halls have been held. People have raised their voices and shared their hearts. In snow, wind, rain, gentle sunshine, and blazing heat, they’ve been there.
We haven’t acted alone, and we aren’t the first group to step to these challenges. There are many around us and ahead of us, many of them who’ve been pounding away for the good of others for decades or even longer. As relentlessly as we’ve fought, we know from those who we stand beside that this is not a battle won. It’s a single step made forward in the long march toward justice, in every sense of that word.
We are so proud of this step, because we know the monumental efforts it took - from our visit leaders, our core team, those who attend events, make calls, write letters ... but we also stand here promising we don’t take this for granted, or with arrogance. We cannot afford that, and those still under threat and still at risk due to the current administration cannot afford it.
Tonight, we should take a humble nod. Tomorrow, we link our arms again, and look forward on our next step.
