On January 19th we visited the offices of Senators McCaskill and Blunt to deliver the Faces of ACA scrapbooks. Missouri constituents stood with us in support and shared their stories of why the ACA is so important them.

Blunt Mobile Office Visits January 10, 2017
“On Tuesday, I went to Senator Roy Blunt's mobile office in Blue Springs. There were about 40 fellow constituents there to meet with two staff members, round-table style. Many of us didn't get a chance to speak, but a lot of us shared the same concerns regarding the cabinet appointments of Sessions (who Blunt calls a "close friend"), DeVos, Pruitt, and Tillerson. There were many impassioned pleas to save the ACA, or at least provide a reasonable replacement before repealing. I was amazed at the eloquence of my fellow citizens, and the expertise they brought as healthcare providers, teachers, social workers, and foster parents, among others. The meeting was very civil. However, despite my hopes to have a reasonable conversation, I was pretty disappointed that Blunt's staff was unable to answer almost any questions, responding, "I have not spoken to the Senator about that. I'll be sure to take down your concerns." The next day, and in the days after, I started hearing from my friends that Blunt's office staff was hanging up on people calling about the ACA. Then they cancelled on a promise to meet with a small group of us later in the week (after work hours) so we would have a chance to express our own concerns. It's pretty frustrating, but it also makes me feel doubly committed to actively take part in this democracy. If our elected representatives are trying to shake us off, they're going to learn it's not that easy.” — Sarah, Kansas City
