Co-Hosted by Indivisible KC and MainStream Coalition
Last Thursday MainStream Coalition and Indivisible KC co-sponsored a casual town hall meeting focused on the secrecy around the Kansas Legislature and the governor’s administration. Davis Hammet, President of Loud Light, was the evening's moderator. Speakers included: Stephanie Clayton, Kansas Representative for District 19; Ron Keefover, President, Kansas Sunshine Coalition for Open Government; and Ed Peterson, Former member of the Johnson County Board of Commissioners, District 1. When subjects that were personally relevant were touched on by speakers, attendees wrote postcards addressed to Kansas legislators. At the evening's end, Indivisible KC collected the cards with plans to deliver them on their behalf.
It was great to see so many of you at the event and we know they're feeling the pressure in Topeka, and even if bills don't pass this session, the momentum is swinging the right way.
Tremendous turnout in Overland Park this evening to learn about lack of transparency in Kansas government today. #DarkKansas & Ron Keefover is explaining how there have been good successes esp. in area of police arrest records. See @ksmainstream FB live feed pic.twitter.com/heBzA4NccA
“94% of bills in #KSLeg in Brownback era were written by ALEC as boilerplate for all states. Our worst laws have come out of that organization - what can you we do abt that?” @SSCJoCoKs says that bill requestors must be listed as of 2018 - but not happening yet. #DarkKansaspic.twitter.com/40g2xHbEd5
